WALLABI

Frequently asked questions

Adding a document

  • What is Wallabi?

Wallabi gathers your tickets and cards on your phone, whoever issued them: shows, concerts, museums, trains, planes, loyalty or membership cards, vouchers. The app recognises their codes and displays them ready to be scanned, at the gate or at the checkout.

  • What documents can I add?

PDFs, such as the ones you receive by email, images (photos, screenshots) and Apple Wallet passes (.pkpass files). A file larger than 25 MB is refused.

  • How do I add a ticket?

In several ways: from another app’s Share menu (your email app, for instance), with “Open with”, from your files, your photo library or the clipboard, or with the camera, which photographs a document or reads a code shown on a screen. Wallabi then analyses the document and shows you the tickets it found: you keep, remove or correct them before saving.

  • My PDF holds several tickets. What happens?

Wallabi creates one ticket per code it finds and keeps them together in a single item: a PDF for four seats gives one item with four tickets. Several PDFs for the same outing are grouped the same way.

  • How do I add a loyalty card?

Photograph it, front and back if you like, or simply type its number: the code is drawn for you. You can also photograph several cards at once, one per photo. A colour taken from the card helps you spot it in your library, and your favourites appear at the top.

  • I use Catima. Can I bring my cards over?

Yes. Export your cards from Catima, without a password, then choose “Import from Catima” in Wallabi’s Settings, under Backup.

  • What if my document has no readable code?

It is kept as it is. You can also point out the area to enlarge at the gate yourself, or mark a code that was read as not meant to be shown, such as the verification code on a health insurance card.

At the gate

  • How do I show a ticket?

Tap it in your library: the code fills the screen, with brightness at maximum and the screen kept awake. The full document is one tap away. For a document you would rather show whole, such as a health insurance card, set the item to “Open on the document”.

  • Do I need a connection to show my tickets?

No. Your tickets are on your phone: they display with no connection, even underground or in aeroplane mode.

  • Why doesn’t the code from a photo look like my photo?

For a PDF, Wallabi shows the area of the document exactly as it was printed, cropped and enlarged. For a photo, often blurry or taken at an angle, the code that was read is redrawn, sharp and high-contrast, which makes it easier to scan. The original photo stays among the item’s files.

  • My ticket was refused at the entrance. Why?

Some tickets only work in the issuer’s own app: codes that change every few seconds, or tickets tied to a single phone. A screenshot or a PDF of those tickets may be refused, in Wallabi as anywhere else. Keep those in the original app.

Sorting and finding

  • Does Wallabi find the title and date on its own?

It suggests them, from the text of the document read on your phone. Everything can be corrected: title, type, date, a ticket’s name. Reading the text of photos only recognises the Latin alphabet, not Chinese or Japanese for example.

  • How do I find a ticket?

Your library is sorted by date, with filters by type: shows, transport, loyalty, other. Search covers titles, notes and the text of your documents.

  • Can Wallabi remind me of an event?

Yes: one reminder per item, the day before or on the day, which you can snooze. Notifications must be allowed; without them, only the reminder stops working.

  • Do past tickets delete themselves?

Only if you ask: automatic deletion after the event is optional. It is always announced beforehand, and you can keep the item at that point. A deletion is permanent: there is no bin.

Your data

  • Where are my tickets?

On your phone, and nowhere else. They are analysed and kept there, never sent to a server. There is no account to create. They only leave the device if you share them or export a backup.

  • Are my documents protected?

By your phone only: Wallabi does not encrypt your documents and has no lock of its own. Make sure your device has a screen lock. The app is not designed for sensitive documents, such as an identity card.

  • What leaves my phone?

Anonymous usage statistics — a screen viewed, a technical error — tied to a session lasting one day rather than to a person. They contain none of your titles, dates, codes or document contents. On Android, the Google component that reads codes and text also sends technical measurements to Google, without your images or the result of the analysis. The details are in the privacy policy.

  • Can I back up my tickets or move to a new phone?

Yes. In Settings, export all your documents to a single file, to keep somewhere safe or send to your new phone. Restoring is done on an empty library. This file is not encrypted: anyone who has access to it can read it.

  • Can I send a ticket to someone?

Yes, as an image, through the app of your choice. They can open it in Wallabi. Be careful: for a single-use ticket, only the first code scanned gets through, whether it is yours or theirs.

The app

  • Which devices does Wallabi run on?

iPhone and Android. The app is translated into 27 languages.

  • I can’t find my answer. Who do I contact?

Write to team@fabulette.net. Wallabi is made by one person: replies arrive within a few working days.
