PELLIO

Wood pellet price per kilo: what are you really paying?

THE SHORT ANSWER

In the second quarter of 2026, bagged pellets averaged about €385 a tonne in France (roughly €0.39 a kilo, or €5.78 for a 15 kg bag) and €5.67 a bag in Spain, VAT included. Whatever the country, compare offers per kilo: the total you pay, delivery included, divided by the kilos you receive.

Why think per kilo

The formula is simple: (number of bags × price of a bag + delivery) ÷ (number of bags × weight of a bag). It is the one the comparator uses.

An index is a national average: your quote can differ with your area, the quantity, the delivery and the time of year. Treat it as a benchmark, not a guaranteed price.

A price that can move a lot

Pellets went through a sharp spike in 2022. The Spanish AVEBIOM index, which goes back to 2012, shows it clearly: the 15 kg bag went from an average of €4.34 in 2021 to €6.53 in 2022, half as much again in a single year, before easing to €5.15 in 2025[2]. Hence the point of knowing what you really pay, purchase by purchase, rather than relying on a remembered price.
